In 2003, Cynthia and I, who were both big fans of White Mountain Ice Cream, were made aware of an opportunity that existed in Westport, Ontario to sell this iconic Canadian creamy delight. We began working on a product line that could be married with White Mountain to create a comfortably balanced food service outlet that could withstand the harsh Canadian climate, the seasonal cottage industry’s starts and stops and maintain a simplistic old fashioned approach to food. As you may already know, the term Cottage Industry is defined as;
“An industry where the creation of products and services is home-based, rather than factory-based. While products and services created by cottage industry are often unique and distinctive given the fact that they are usually not mass-produced, producers in this sector often face numerous disadvantages when trying to compete with much larger factory-based companies."
Therefore the name "Cottage Coffee" merged, and the journey began. Our original mission statement was simply to serve handcrafted products that were unique & exceptional; create an environment that made customers rich in experience. Although we have several tag lines for our business, our handcrafted cedar wooden sign on the front of our store probably says it the best...White Mountain Homemade Ice Cream proudly serving Cottage Coffee. Yes, we are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish over the past 7 years.
